PANJIM: Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) demolished a restaurant at Anjuna on Friday. The demolition was carried out amidst tight police security and in the presence of executive magistrate Sanjeev Gaude.
The Corporation proposes to develop the property to create space for parking of buses, two and four wheelers, set up toilets, signages, drainage, proper lighting systems.
“We will also create avenues that will generate employment facilities for local villagers from the area,” a statement issued by Tourism Department said.
“The project is undertaken under the central government’s Swadesh Darshan Scheme for which an amount of Rs 15 crore is earmarked,” a GTDC official said. He added, “Any illegal structure in the GTDC property will be demolished.”
GTDC at its Board meeting on Wednesday approved upgrading its residencies at Mapusa, Margao, Vasco and Calangute annex. It proposes to also give all these residencies a facelift and provide basic facilities.
