A day when all were one with Goencho Saib

OLD GOA: The rush for venerating the relics of Saint Francis Xavier continued on the feast day as well as a huge queue of people could be seen waiting for their turn to enter the Se Cathedral.

Apart from participating in the masses, people were displaying their reverence to the saint by garlanding a small statue of the Goemcho Saib that was kept just outside the Basilica and also lighting candles near the cross.
The fair area, near the Gandhi circle and other places, was crowded as people thronged to buy sweets, grams, clothes and other articles.
People selling flower garlands, candles and candle products made brisk business.
Beggars too made the best of the day.
The security arrangements were watertight as each and every person was thoroughly checked before entering the Basilica precinct for the feast masses.
Some of the people found it hard to enter the Se Cathedral precinct where the exhibition of faith and other activities are being held. The security was so tight that the people were not allowed to enter the Se Cathedral through the main entrance or the side entrances. They were advised by the security personnel to line up in the queue used for venerating the relics of the saint, which many complained was time consuming. The traffic arrangements were smooth with the traffic personnel located at strategic locations around the Se Cathedral and Basilica.
