TIVIM: Bowing to angry protests from residents, the Korgao panchayat in Pernem on Sunday agreed to revoke the NOC granted to a builder to construct a road in the village.

Hitting out at the panchayat for having granted the NOC without verifying the facts, the residents at a Gram Sabha claimed that the road was being built by forging documents and they also complained that they were not consulted regarding the construction of the road.

Asking the panchayat to justify its decision to grant the NOC to the road, one resident claimed that the road is being constructed at an isolated place and it would facilitate anti-social activities.

Another resident complained that a large number of trees were felled and hill-cutting activity had taken place to construct the road. Information under RTI had revealed that facts were hidden and documents were forged to get permissions from authorities concerned, stated the resident.

Explaining the panchayat’s position, Sarpanch Pandhari Korgaonkar said that the panchayat had granted the NOC based on the permissions by the TCP, forest department and other departments.

But bowing to intense opposition from residents, the sarpanch stated that the panchayat would revoke its NOC for the road.
