PANJIM: Goa Football Development Council in its pursuit of imparting practical knowledge in the field of sports medicine, conducted an advanced course consisting of management of bony fractures, wounds and bleeding recently.
Forty participants participated in the course which was in association with the Disaster Management cell of the Indian Medical Association- Goa and Indian Red Cross – Goa. Renowned doctors Dr. Sitakant Ghanekar and Dr. Kalpana Mahatme along with Dr. Rufino Monteiro – chairman of the GFDC were the resource personnel for the training.
Dr. Monteiro explained importance of the course based on scientific developments as well as preparation to tackle any on field injuries.
Member Secretary, GFDC Elvis Gomes stated that GFDC has time and again strived to develop football in the state in it’s entirety and hence has begun Advanced First Aid Courses to provide another opportunity for rehearsal to deal with on field injuries, so that the participant’s knowledge is upgraded.
GFDC has begun this second round of free training in Sports Medicine for football coaches, managers, ex-footballers and physical education teachers, held on Saturdays.
