Gold artisan booked for cheating customers of Rs 23L

PERNEM: The Pernem police have booked a gold artisan for fleecing several persons to the tune of Rs 23.26 lakh on the pretext of making new gold jewellery from old gold.

The accused has been identified Raju Sonar, 36, from Belagavi and presently residing at Dhargalim, Pernem.

As per the complaint, Raju was entrusted with old gold ornaments worth Rs 18.16 lakh and Rs 5.20 lakh by the complainant and various other persons to prepare new gold jewellery.

Raju dishonestly misappropriated the gold and cash for his personal use, states the complaint filed against him by Rutvik Pandurkar, a 22-year-old goldsmith from Nagzar, Pernem.

The Pernem police have registered the case.

under Sections 316 (2) and 318 (4) of BNS and PSI Vivek Halarnkar is conducting investigation under the guidance of Pernem PI Sachin Lokre.
