CHINCHINIM: St Thomas High School, Cansaulim got the better of Perpetual Succor Convent High School Navelim 6-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the 2nd St Joseph Vaz Soccer Cup, 9-a-side inter-school football tournament, organised by Mount Mary’s Educational Complex, at Our lady of Hope Church ground, Chinchinim, on Monday.
Both the teams displayed some attacking brand of football and it was St Thomas HS shot into the lead with Maywan D’Mello heading the ball home in the 7th minute after Amamulla Hodekar sent in a well measured pass towards the former.
St Thomas scored yet again to double their lead in the 20th minute through Alrico Cardozo.
Perpetual Succor HS bounced back and made their presence felt after Prinson Pereira narrowed the margin making the score 1-2 in the 26th minute.
Within five minutes Haydon Pinto levelled terms for Perpetual Succor thus taking the match into the tie-breaker.
In the resultant tie-breaker St Thomas proved to be better shooters.
In another match, St Rita High School, Maina defeated St Xavier High School, Velim 4-1 to move into the quarter-finals.
