MARGAO: Residents of Raia, already frustrated by poor road conditions, are now voicing their anger over persistent power failures and frequent shutdowns in the area. Locals claim these outages have become a monthly occurrence, causing significant hardship for both households and businesses.

Several villagers, including Anthony Fernandes, expressed dissatisfaction, noting that despite ongoing electrical repairs, power disruptions continue to happen with alarming regularity.
“According to records, power shutdowns are scheduled almost every month under the guise of necessary repairs,” Fernandes said. “We don’t understand what type of repair work is being done when outages are still so frequent.”
These complaints follow similar concerns raised by residents of Manora-Raia about the deplorable condition of the road from Manora to Nuvem.
Villagers had demanded immediate repairs, threatening protests if action was not taken. Despite repeated appeals, the authorities have yet to address the issue, leaving residents disillusioned.
On Thursday, frustration reached a boiling point as Raia’s residents once again accused the authorities of neglecting their needs.
Local resident Jose Madeira criticised the power department, asking why the repair works couldn’t be completed once and for all to prevent recurring disruptions.
The power issues are not limited to Raia. Residents of nearby Fatorda also reported outages on Thursday, further compounding the difficulties faced by the public. Milagres Fernandes, a Fatorda resident, highlighted the impact on families and businesses, especially during the summer months. “It’s impossible to even sit at home without electricity. Small businesses are suffering huge losses because of these outages,” Fernandes said.
