Smart city or smart people?

Goa has always been known for its unique beauty and peace loving people –  the beauty that nature has bestowed upon us. But instead of nurturing and protecting this beauty for posterity, the mal governance all these years has taken a toll on the resources of Goa. The greed knows no bounds of the politicians on this front. After looting the mineral wealth by the miners, and greed of the builders, Goa has been now reduced to a no-win situation. The tall promises of giving Goans a land management through Regional Plan has failed to deliver and hence the builders have shown their clout in the corridors of powers.
Goans had embraced the BJP in the hope of resurrecting Goa’s fortunes and give us the clean and respectable governance. Instead we got to witness only U turns. Panjim city has now been under the purview of becoming smart city in the game plan of the Central Government. Why should only Panjim City turn into a smart city? And why not make whole of Goa into a Smart State? Don’t we have the resources to pursue this goal? Certainly we have, provided we replace our crab mentality with social responsibility, mend our fences, invest our goodwill, vote conscientiously, and be outspoken of the ills plaguing the state of Goa. Goan can still achieve the goal if our leaders-politicians-and social activists first turn themselves into smart citizens.
