Goa won the toss and elected to bat, setting up only 199 runs.
Snehal Kauthankar (32) and Prathamesh Gawas (16) started steadily for Goa but after the latter was sent back to the pavilion, his opening partner followed for a score of 78/2 in the 32nd over. Skipper Sagun Kamat tried to stabilize the batting order but was bowled out by Gurvinder Singh for 25.
Subsequently, Goa’s batting order crumbled to Kunwal Abhinay’s five wicket haul. Goa bowlers had to take on the field on the very first day of the four-day test match and only Sagar Naik managed to clinch the wicket opener Prashant Chopra (12). Ankush Dhaliwal 41 not out and Nikhil Gangta 19 not out saw Himachal Pradesh reach 73 for 1 at the fall of stumps.
