MARGAO: A fine brace apiece by Stalin Baptista and Cleston Fernandes enabled United Club of Benaulim edged past CRC, Chinchinim 4-2 and cruise into the quarter-finals of All Goa Telaulim Village Panchayat Cup inter-village football tournament organized by United Club of Telaulim, at Telaulim ground, on Monday. United Club of Benaulim led 2-0 at half time.
United Club of Benaulim dominated the game and pushed their opponents on the back foot. Persistent forays paid off the dividends and in the very fifth minute striker Stalin punished the rival goalkeeper with snap shot.
With the lead, United Club of Benaulim intensified their attacks and in the 10th minute again Stalin doubled the score with a stiff grounder to register his brace.
Post resumption, United Club of Benaulim continued to enjoy the better share of exchanges. In the 40th minute, Cleston Fernandes put the issue beyond doubt when he punished the rival goalkeeper with neat finish. A minute later, Cleston struck second time to register his brace.
After 4-0 cushion, United Club of Benaulim slackened their pace and allowed their opponents to launch barrage of attacks. Ryan Fernandes, who had a good game, scored a brace in the 50th and 52nd minutes respectively.
