The residents, who led a rally to Ponda Mamlatdar’s office, claimed that some people stored saline water by breaking the khazan bundh for fishing activities in a hazardous manner in Parampoi Kator Khazan land.
Ponda Mamlatdar Roshal Fernandes, who was busy with official work and recently transferred, was confronted by the Marcaim locals for about an hour who demanded a site inspection at Marcaim. The Mamlatdar after the hour-long discussion with the locals agreed to inspect the site.
During the discussion, the locals told the Mamlatdar to permanently prevent illegal fishing activities in the khazan field. They said there is about 10 metres bundh, which has been broken and some people are engaged in fishing activities by allowing saline water.
They further said due to water logging in the fields, some houses have developed cracks and are likely to collapse. There has been breeding of mosquitoes and there is a fear of spread of malaria and dengue, due to which there is panic and demanded urgent action to repair the bundh.
They further said many wells in the village have been polluted and there is shortage of water supply.
