PWD staff transferred, but yet to be relieved of old posting

It appears strange but it’s true. Public Works Department transfers of employees from Bardez, who were transferred following allegations of corruption and indiscipline made by the Leader of the Opposition Manohar Parrikar in the Assembly, are in fact, yet to be relieved to take over their new posting.
The Public Works Department had issued order of transfer of 35 employees from the Porvorim and Mapusa Water Supply Division XVII last month and they were supposed to join their new posting with effect from April 1, 2010.
The 35 employees included one Junior Engineer, five tanker drivers, 10 plumbers, five pump operators and 14 labours.
While the five drivers have joined duty at their new postings in South Goa, sources said due to political interference, the others have not been relieved yet from Division XVII.
When contacted the PWD officials simply tried to pass the buck on one another.
The Executive Engineer Kamladinni said that he has already issued order and the Assistant Engineer Surlakar has to implement and relieve the employees.
“I have issued order it is now upto the Assistant engineer to implement the order,” Kamladinni told Herald.
Efforts to contact the Assistant Engineer turned futile.
However, Chief Engineer J N Chimulkar said “it is upto the Executive Engineer to get the order implemented.”
Herald has learnt that the three legislators from the surrounding constituencies have been been pressurising the executive engineer not to transfer their men.
This is despite the leader of Opposition assuring the assembly that no MLAs would interfere if action is initiated against some “erring” employees.
PWD Minister Chruchill Alemao, who had assured the Assembly to take action, refused to offer his comment on the issue when contacted by Herald.
“I will look into the matter,” was all what he said.
Parrikar had said in the Assembly that the water supply for Bardez was sufficient but the distribution management was very bad due to corrupt practices of the employees.
