MARGAO: Sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas from Salcete on Friday came under a common platform for redressal of their grievances and to jointly take up their common issues with the government authorities.
The meeting held at the Davorlim Panchayat hall was attended by most of the sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas from the taluka, with most of them underlining the need to come under one banner to jointly fight their problems.
They discussed ways and means how to go about achieving their objectives and all of them decided to meet periodically.
Sao Jose de Areal Sarpanch Julio Monteiro said the coming together of the village sarpanchas and deputy sarpanchas was to jointly take up common issues plaguing the panchayat bodies. There are several common issues which affect the panchayats and our coming together will help address these issues, he added.
Rachol Sarpanch Joseph Vaz said the sarpanchas would soon draft a memorandum and present the same to the government highlighting various problems affecting the panchayat bodies, including problems arising out of the non-implementation of the 73rd Amendment to the Constitution.
He said they would be meeting once in two months and discuss problems faced by panchayats with the departments of agriculture and RDA and work out solutions.
