PANJIM: The Public Works Department is working on Lusofonia Games related infrastructure, with work on the new Nuvem by-pass already having been taken up.
The other works include road widening and improvement of road engineering at Dona Paula-Bambolim and Fatorda where Games venues are located.
Principal Chief Engineer PWD J S Rego said, “So far we have tendered one of the three works and have started the Nuvem by-pass,” adding that this is a major work as compared to the other projects entrusted to the PWD.
The PWD has been sanctioned Rs 60 crore towards infrastructure related works for the Lusofonia Games.
Amidst various doubts expressed regarding games readiness, Rego said, “We hope to complete the same by October end.”
The estimated cost of the work for the Nuvem by-pass is Rs 9 crore, cost of road works from Dona Paula to Bambolim is Rs 42 crore and that for Fatorda is Rs 5 crore.
ENTRY TAX PASS SYSTEM: Meanwhile, the PWD is close to finalising the pass system for the entry toll being collected at the State borders. It is learnt that the file has been forwarded by the government to the PWD for notifying the same.
“We are however in the process of modifying the notification issued earlier by the government with some minor changes before it is notified, thus bringing the pass system into effect,” said Principal Chief Engineer PWD J S Rego.
The pass system for regular goods and passenger vehicles from neighbouring states of Karnataka and Maharashtra is likely to come into effect before the end of September.
