MARGAO: Navelim Veterans thumped Varca Veterans 5-2 to sail into the quarter-finals of South Goa inter-village veterans football tournament, organized by Fatorda Veterans near Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Saturday. Navelim led 4-1 at the interval.
Bento D’Silva, Claudio Dias, Frank Fernandes, Philip Fernandes and William Fernandes added their names to the impressive scorer list while Felix Dias scored a brace for the losers.
Bento opened the scoring soon after the kick off. Claudio made it 2-0 in the 10th minute while Frank inflated the tally in the 20th minute. Philip put the issue beyond doubt while Felix reduced the margin at the stroke of lemon break.
After resumption, William sealed the rival fate. Felix again scored for Varca to complete his brace.
