Archbishop Ferrao urges Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai to facilitate Pope Francis' visit to India

PANJIM: Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao has said Pope Francis is longing to come to India and Governor of Goa P S Sreedharan Pillai can play a vital role in asking the Centre to invite him. He was speaking while a 9 member Papal delegation met the Governor at the Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.

The delegation was led by His Eminence Archbishop George Jacob Koovakad, Cardinal-elect, was enriched by the presence of his Excellency Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra, the third highest-ranking official in the holy Catholic Church. The Vatican delegation is on a stopover in Goa to visit the Exposition of St Francis Xavier.

“I know that the Holy Father Pope Francis is longing to visit India. I’m sure your excellency you can play a role, that an official written invitation is sent by our Union Government to the Holy Father, so that all of us can have the joy of having the visit of Pope Francis, to our country,” Cardinal Ferrao said at Raj Bhavan in the presence of the Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai.

“We have to Cardinals who will be elevated on December 7, 2024. We congratulate them and assure them of our prayers. The governor of Goa mentioned that he was instrumental in organising the meeting of three Cardinals with the Prime Minister. Now that we have Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad incharge of the apostolic journey ( of Pope Francis)

I wish and pray that our governor can play a significant role in ensuring that there is an official written invitation from our Union Government to the Holy father.” Archbishop Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrao said in the presence of the Governor of Goa PS Sreedharan Pillai.

“We have in our presence Cardinal George Jacob Koovakad who is incharge of the apostolic journeys. The visit of the Holy Father will gladden our hearts.
