PANJIM: PWD-Margao got the better of Health Services by 12 runs in a cliffhanger to emerge champions of PWDSRC’s 3rd State level inter-govt. dept./corp.T-20 season ball cricket tournament organized by Goa Public Works Department’s – Sports and Recreation Club in association with SAG at open cricket ground at Fatorda, Margao.
Electing to bat first on a slowish pitch, PWD-Margao were bowled out for 89 in 14.5 overs, with Kiran Naik top scoring with 18. Umesh Naik 14, Haresh Kakodkar 13 and Vishwambher Bhende 11 were the other contributors. Videsh Jalmi was the pick of the bowlers picking 3/9. Babu Kerkar 3/16, Ashfaali Khan 1/12, Sandip Gawas 1/18 and Vithal Parker 1/19 also chipped in.
In reply, Health Services could only manage 77/7 in their allotted 15 overs, resulting in a 12 run win for PWD-Margao. Skipper Sujay Kamat was the top scorer with 18 and was well supported by Sandip Gawas 13, Vijay Gawas 11 and Babu Kerkar 10. Shailesh Naik was the pick of the bowlers for PWD-Margao picking 2/9 and was well supported by Umesh Naik 1/11, Gomakant Mahambrey 1/13, Haresh Kakodkar 1/14 and Anil Mashelkar 1/16.
Shailesh Naik, who turned the match in PWD-Margao’s favour, was declared man-of-the-finals. Kiran Naik (PWD-Margao), who hit the only six of the match was awarded most sixes award, Vishwambher Bhende (PWD-Margao) got the best fielder award while Mahesh Parab of Health Services was declared the best wicket-keeper. Tushal Sawant (Goa Tourism) was awarded highest runs in the tournament award while Rajesh Kale also from Goa Tourism picked the award for most wickets in the tournament. Sameer Thakur (Health Services) was declared the best bowler of the tournament while Umesh Naik (PWD-Margao) was declared the best batsman. Haresh Kakodkar of PWD-Margao was awarded the player of the tournament award for his brilliant all-round display.
The Directorate of Panchayats collected the second runners-up trophy defeating Goa Tourism by seven wickets and 7.1 overs to spare, courtesy a good all-round show by Nilesh Shirodkar, who picked 4/10 and scored 54 not out, earlier in the day.
PWD Minister Sudin Dhavlikar gave away the prizes in the presence of Chief Engineer of PWD, Joseph Rego and Chief Engineer-I of PWD, Dattaprasad Borker.
