A 38-year-old man from Kolkata, identified as Bishnu, has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a series of temple robberies across Goa. The arrest was made by Police Inspector Narayan Chimulkar of Mopa Airport Police Station, Pernem Sub-Division, during intensified patrols in response to recent thefts.
On September 7 at around 3:15 pm, Bishnu was intercepted at Warkhand junction while riding a Splendor motorcycle. Wearing a sweat T-shirt and helmet, he closely resembled the suspect seen in CCTV footage linked to a theft at Shree Vetal Temple, Alorna, on August 15.
When police signaled him to stop, Bishnu attempted to escape towards Dhargal but was chased and caught. A search of his backpack led to the recovery of burglary tools, including a pickaxe and screwdriver, as well as ₹910 in small denominations, suspected to have been stolen from temple donation boxes.
Police are investigating his possible involvement in other temple thefts reported in the state.
