GGEA defers strike

The Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has deferred their strike till December 20 in light of assurance given by the Chief Minister Digambar Kamat to resolve their problem.
Working committee, taluka committee and councils of GGEA met in the city today and decided to wait till December 20, told M L Shetkar, President of GGEA to Herald on Sunday evening.
He said the chief minister had personally assured them the government consider their demand sympathetically and the file has been moved to the law secretary.
The GGEA had threatened to go on indefinite strike from December 6 to compel the government to fulfill their long pending demand seeking upgradation in pay scales of all left out categories.
On the other hand on December 1 the government invoked Essential Services Management Act (ESMA) and declared that indefinite strike called by GGEA was illegal especially, when the government had considered the genuine demand of the employees.
It had also announced that employees participating in the illegal strike or found not discharging their assigned duties during the strike period shall be treated as absent. The principle of “no pay no work” will be invoked against all those participating in the strike.
According to Shetkar about 20000-25000 employees were left out sudden selective upgradation in addition to Sixth Pay Commission Recommendation.
