PANJIM: The Colvale Police have arrested a 54-year-old man from Mapusa and his three associates for stealing 400 iron bars worth Rs 1.8 lakh from an under construction site of an educational society.
The accused has been identified as Katalsab Bepari from Karaswada, Mapusa, Manja Lamani, 30, from Cunchelim, Mapusa, and native of Karnataka, Surendra Jaiswal, 32, from Karaswada, Mapusa, and native of Uttar Pradesh and Sharun Kumar, 23, from Durga Nagar, Colvale, and native of Uttar Pradesh,
According to police, Narayan Dicholkar, representative of Halarnkar Education Society, Colvale, lodged a complaint stating that between September 1 and December 31, 2024, unknown persons cut and stole 400 iron bars of 25 mm of four meters along with their rings of eight mm bars all worth Rs 1.8 lakh from the under construction site.
An FIR under section 303 (2) of BNS 2023 was registered and investigation taken up.
During investigation it was revealed that a scrapyard dealer from Karaswada Mapusa area is involved in the crime. Accordingly search was carried out in the scrapyard from where the stolen iron bars were seized.
Part of the stolen properties have been recovered at the instance of accused persons and attached under panchanama.
The accused were produced before JMFC Mapusa which remanded them to three days police custody.
The case is being investigated by PSI Sunny Kanekar of Colvale Police Station under the supervision of PI Colvale Police Station Vijay Rane and under the overall supervision of SDPO Mapusa Sandesh Chodankar and SP (North) Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
