VASCO: The workers of Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) on Thursday staged protest as part of nationwide protests to seek their demands including implementation of the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee settlement dated September 29, 2024, ensuring new wages and associated benefits to them.

The workers under the banner of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) of Major Port & Dock Workers Federations staged a demonstration in front of the main administrative office building at Headland, Sada, during lunch break.
Besides, implementation of the Bipartite Wage Negotiation Committee settlement dated September 29, 2024, ensuring new wages and associated benefits, the protesters demanded introduction of the Productivity Linked Reward (PLR) for 2020-21 to 2025-26 as approved by the Union Cabinet, under Section 12 (3) of the Industrial Disputes Act, equal treatment for Group C and D employees, eliminating discrimination by authorities including the Ministry and Extension of statutory benefits to pensioners and family pensioners.
The workers wore black ribbons and threatened to intensify protests by involving pensioners and their families if their demands were not settled by December 10.
They further warned that if wages remain unpaid by December 15 then the Union will join an indefinite nationwide strike on December 17.
The Union has thanked the MPA chairperson for completing formalities and are now awaiting directions from the Indian Ports Association (IPA), which has been delayed for over two months.
The protest was addressed by prominent union leaders.
