PANJIM: The St Cruz constituency lacks all round development – this is what Congress candidate Rudolf Fernandes had to say as he took a pot shot at incumbent MLA Tony Fernandes.
Rudolf recalled that works initiated by his late mother, former St Cruz MLA Victoria Fernandes took St Cruz to a different level and that he will ensure her legacy is carried forward. “My people believe that I can carry forward my mother’s legacy. We had an MLA who did nothing but I commit to the people to always remain with them,” he said.

Rudolf’s campaign got a boost when Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi addressed the people of St Cruz stating, “His mother was an original fighter and her son will keep the promises that she made to you.” Her campaign for the social worker has increased people’s faith.
“There is problem of unemployment. At least 1,000 youth are looking for jobs. I will give my best to ensure our educated youth are not without jobs. We have also huge problem of garbage. It is scattered all over giving a filthy look to this village. I will work out a plan to make mandatory daily collection of garbage and that it does not create a nuisance to our village,” he said.
Empowering women by creating employment to earn their daily bread, promoting agriculture, resolving water woes in certain parts of St Cruz, community hall, market, health care in Merces and Chimbel, and commissioning the water tank, which has been lying idle, are some of the promises on his agenda.
“My mother had set up a huge water tank in St Cruz, which can provide water to the people for 20 days even if there is not direct water supply. It is the biggest tank compared to any in other constituencies but unfortunately, it has been lying idle. I will commission it once elected to the Legislative Assembly,” he promised.
In the days he had to leave door-to-door campaign owing to commitments in the party office, Rudolf said his wife and sister covered it for him.
He went on to add that while people have been complaining about no development, they also do not want a defector like Tony.
