MARGAO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Monday said the de-notification of land acquisition of Salpem lake at Navelim is before the Cabinet and a decision on the issue will be taken at its next meeting.
“The issue of scrapping the land acquisition proceedings to acquire land at the Salpem lake had come before the last Cabinet meeting. But the Cabinet had raised some queries and a decision on the land acquisition will be taken after the authorities reply to the queries,” he said.
The Chief Minister was in Navelim to review the progress of work in Navelim and Velim constituencies. Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado and Velim MLA Benjamin D’Silva along with officials of various departments attended the meeting.
Parrikar later told the media that he has only reviewed the works that were planned in Navelim constituency so that actual work on the projects gets underway after the monsoons. “We have reviewed the bottle necks and worked out solutions. Once the rain stops, construction activity should start since the government has accorded financial expenditure sanction for the works,” he said.
Replying to a question, Parrikar said he has suggested to the power officials to change the conductors wherever necessary to improve the power situation. “Underground cabling is a long-term solution. Putting up new transformers and sub-stations should help improve power supply as a temporary measure,” he added.
