After a three month break in view of the monsoons, water sports have recommenced on Benaulim beach from Saturday.
The activity was visible on the Benaulim beach on Saturday with the Captain of Ports and Tourism department issuing the required NOCs to operate water sports.
Owner of Lucky Remmy speed boat, Remy Fernandes said that he was issued the NOC by the Captain of Ports on Friday, after he completed the formalities with the Tourism department.
“I have started water sports operations from Saturday. This is just the beginning and we all hope for the good tourism season ahead,” Remy said.
Water sport is a popular activity along Salcete beach belt, including Colva, Benaulim and Cavelossim-Mobor, attracting hordes of tourists visiting the beach belt. In fact, operators say that majority of the visitors attracted to water sports are Indian tourists.
In the past, water sports activity had kicked up controversies over the area in which they should operate, while leaving enough space for swimming and bathing on the beach.
However, it is learnt that the life guards manning the beaches now earmark certain areas for swimming taking into account the sea condition, leaving the remaining stretch of the beach for water sports activity.
Meanwhile, plastic and other waste in small quantities was washed ashore along the Benaulim coast on Saturday. The waste was found lying in certain stretches of the beach belt right up to neighbouring Colva.
