MARGAO: Demanding to know whether the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim is a life saver or a health hazard, Congress MLA Reginaldo Lourenco slammed as pathetic condition at the GMC saying the BJP Santa Claus has failed to improve the facilities in the State run hospital.
Addressing the media, Reginaldo said that the condition of GMC is so pathetic that one wonders whether patients come to the hospital to save their lives or to get worse. “The government says it is for the poor, but the plight of the poor in this hospital is pitiable. The basic life saving equipments such as stretchers are being used to transport consumable and other items while the genuine poor patients are deprived of basic amenities. Just imagine the plight of other important life saving equipments if the stretchers are misused in such a way,” he told the media.
The Curtorim MLA said the surroundings of the GMC are also a major health hazard. “The toxic and other waste from GMC is also dumped in the vicinity which may be a breeding spot for mosquitoes,” he said.
While demanding that the health department look into the issue and stop the misuse of the basic amenities, Reginaldo demanded that the garbage from the GMC be inspected and dumped in a safe place.
He added that the head of the departments should inspect GMC on a regular basis to check and rectify the irregularities.
