AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge has called for complete unity within the Goa Congress, saying leaders from differ ent sections of the party have assured him that they will work together to fight the forthcoming elections and strive to bring the Con gress back to power in the State. Kharge said he had inter acted with representatives of various sections of the Goa Congress and was en couraged by their com mitment to work collec tively for the party. He said the discussions had given him confidence that the state unit was preparing to face the electoral battle unitedly.
“I have received representations from all sections and had conversations. I am hap py to see that all sections of Congress are working for the party to win,” Kharge said. He said Congress leaders had assured him that they would remain united and fight the elections together. “I have spoken to Congress leaders from every section and they all assured me that they will fight unit edly and fight the elections,” he said. Kharge also clarified the party’s posi tion on possible electoral alliances in Goa. He said any decision on an alliance would first be taken by the State-level Congress leadership, with the proposal then being forwarded to the party high command for final approval. His remarks assume significance as the Goa Congress seeks to bridge differences among various factions and strengthen its organisation ahead of the elections. Kharge said the party would focus on unity and col lective efforts rather than allowing internal differences to affect its electoral prospects. Taking a swipe at the Goa government, Kharge alleged that the ruling dispensation was attempting to create fear and suppress people. He said governments in a democra cy should work within democratic norms and take forward the good initiatives of previous governments instead of treating opposition parties as enemies. “In democracy, the new government has to take forward the good work from the past government.
We will work peacefully towards winning and bringing the Con gress government in Goa,” he said. Congress spokesperson Sameer Val voilkar expressed confidence that the par ty could form the next government in Goa with the guidance and support of the cen tral leadership. He said the unity displayed by party leaders would strengthen the Con gress organisation and help it take on the BJP effectively. The Congress meeting was also attended by former Union Minister and former Mem ber of Parliament Eduardo Faleiro. Faleiro expressed confidence in the leadership and said Girish Chodankar could deliver good results for the party. Former Goa Chief Minister Francisco Sar dinha also stressed the need for unity with in the Congress, calling upon party leaders and workers to come together to defeat the BJP and emerge victorious in the elections.
The participation of senior leaders such as Faleiro and Sardinha, along with the as surances given by different sections of the party, underlined the Congress leadership’s renewed emphasis on presenting a united front. Kharge’s message remained clear: the Congress must set aside differences, work collectively and take the electoral battle to the BJP as one team. “United we fight, united we win,” he said.
