MARGAO: Utorda-Majorda resident Aleixo Pereira has moved a petition before the deputy director of panchayats seeking the disqualification of Majorda-Utorda-Calata deputy sarpanch Georgina Mascarenhas who is officiating as the acting sarpanch after the ouster of sarpanch Moises Vaz.
Pereira has sought that Mascarenhas be banned from attending the office as the acting sarpanch or deputy sarpanch or as a member of ward 2 till the disposal of the petition. Pereira has made allegations of financial irregularities on the part of Mascarenhas.
Mascarenhas and Pereira are locked in a bitter feud with Mascarenhas having recently filed a case against Pereira with the Colva police for allegedly tearing out two pages as well as setting fire to the village panchayat register. The FIR was subsequently filed under Sections 504, 353, 435 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code.
This comes on the backdrop of allegations of corruption being levelled against all the nine panch members of the panchayat at the gram sabha held on April 12. This resulted in a commotion at the meeting that was hurriedly adjourned to a later date.
These allegations were stoutly denied by Mascarenhas who had chaired the gram sabha meet where villagers demanded an explanation from the panch members about the bribery allegations made against them.
