PANJIM: Goencho Avaaz on Tuesday said that the BJP-led coalition government has no right to celebrate Opinion Poll Day on January 16, as the government is on a fast-track mission to decimate and destroy the unique identify of Goa, which the Opinion Poll of 1967 had wanted to protect.
Addressing the media, Goencho Avaaz co-convenor Captain Viriato Fernandes said that Ministers and MLAs of the present government have no right to celebrate the historic Opinion Poll day, as there is total gloom, sadness and devastation at the shocking state of affairs all around.
“A dream that our founding fathers had cherished about a State ensuring preservation and protection of its unique social, cultural, ecological values enshrined in its heritage and hospitality called Goenkarponn, today faces a grave threat of getting annihilated,” he said.
Fernandes said that the government is on a fast track mission to decimate and destroy the unique Goan identity, by enacting anti-Goan and anti-people laws, be it selling the land, water bodies, forests, etc in the name of destructive laws.
He alleged that the government, formed through deceit and money power, after losing the mandate of the people, is trying to annihilate the spirit of Goenkarponn that the forefathers had fought so hard to preserve the uniqueness by winning the Opinion Poll.
Goencho Avaaz said that GFP and MGP should accept accountability for supporting this destructive BJP-led government.
