The lottery of life: A km-long queue in the rain at Quepem for lottery tickets

Dreams of winning four-wheelers, over a crore in cash, a 2 BHK flat, etc, make dreamers line up for hours in the rain

The lottery tickets of Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav Mandal Quepem and Sangampur Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Sanguem, which are the most-awaited, were sold out in two hours with people waiting in a line since dawn braving the rain and the storm. After all a prize money of a crore, 2 BHK flats and cars are castles in the air that seemed within touching distance.

People from across the State flocked to Quepem, making beelines, braving the rains to purchase tickets, forming a kilometre-long queue on Saturday.

A Police force was deployed at Quepem as many cars and two-wheelers blocked roads. Anticipating the massive rush, the Mandal made arrangements for those coming to purchase the lotteries. By 7.15 pm, the lotteries were completely sold out.

This year, the Mandal printed 1.5 lakh tickets, priced at Rs 500 each.
