GOA VELHA: Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club scored a nervy 2-1 win over Chandor Sports Club in the London Trophy match, organized by Goa Velha Sports Club, at Goa Velha ground, on Wednesday.
Starting the game 10 men, Sap Jose de Areal showed no fear and began the match with great zeal and enthusiasm. They had the first shot at the goal when striker Monty Valadares tested the Chandor keeper Oswin Rodrigues from a distance.
Hastan Dias soon gave Areal the much deserved lead as he slammed the ball past the helpless keeper.
It didn’t take long as Chandor Club equalized with their first shot at goal as Lino’s strike deflected off a defender and sailed past the helpless Areal keeper Godfrey Costa.
Crossing ends, Chandor came back strongly with Benson Fernandes and Mario Noronha, but the duo just couldn’t get the final act done.
After much probing, Areal finally took the lead once again through David Colaco, which ultimately proved to be the match winner.
