PANJIM: SP Chowgule College, Margao and St Xavier’s College, Mapusa won the Inter-Collegiate Table Tennis Championship for men and women respectively, organised by Goa University at Sports Authority of Goa, Indoor Stadium, Campal.
In the men’s section, Chowgules won convincingly by 3-0 against Goa Engineering College Farmagudi.
In the singles, Anang Mahato beat Amey Naik 12-10, 13-11, 11-7. In the second match, Nikhil Jadhav beat Prathamesh Dhulapkar 11-6, 11-9, 11-8. Yash Naik beat Rohit Naik 11-6, 18-16, 11-4 in the third singles.
In the semi-finals Smt Chowgule College defeated Dhempe College, Miramar 3-0 and GEC Farmagudi defeated Don Bosco College of Engg, Fatorda 3-0.
In the women section St Xaviers College, Mapusa overcame a stiff challenge from MES College, Zuarinagar by 3-2 matches. In the first match Utkarsha Shivani beat Kefira Rodrigues 3-2, Arantxa Noronha lost to Komal Salgaonkar 0-3 in the second match. Pranali Sonawane beat Shalakha Naik 3-0 in the third match. Arantxa Noronha lost to Kefira Rodrigues 2-3 and Utkarsha Shivani defeated Komal Salgaonkar 3-2 in the last game.
In the semi finals, St Xavier’s defeated Dempo College, Cujira 3-0 and MES defeated GVM’s, Ponda 3-0.
