Vijai Sardesai Slams State Budget, Compares It to ‘Plastic Maatoli’

Goa Forward Party chief and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai has taken a swipe at Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s description of the state budget as “चवथिची माटोळी” (Ganesh Chaturthi gift basket), saying the comparison is misleading and superficial.

“The Chief Minister called the budget ‘चवथिची माटोळी’, but he might not realise that nowadays people use plastic माटोळी,” Sardesai remarked, adding a sharp twist to the CM’s analogy.

He further stated that ever since the BJP came to power in Goa, even age-old Ganesh Chaturthi traditions have changed. “Now people use plastic माटोळी — it may look attractive, but it has no real substance. The budget is just like that — flashy on the outside but lacking in meaning or benefit for the people.”

Sardesai’s comments come amid ongoing criticism from the Opposition, which has labelled the budget as directionless and disconnected from ground realities.
