PONDA: The locals and forest officials on Thursday rescued a leopard cub that strayed in a residential area at Namaswada-Cuncoliem.

After noticing the cub in the area, the dogs started barking, which alerted the locals. A local woman was scared after noticing the wild cat roaming in the area, but later realised that it was a leopard cub. She displayed courage and placed the cub in a bamboo basket. The cub was later rescued by the forest officials at Ponda.
Range Forest Officer Deepak Tandel said, “We received a call from locals at around 8 am and our team rushed to spot and rescued the animal. There is a forest area near the village which is frequented by animals. The cub has been kept under observation by veterinary doctors at the Curti Veterinary Hospital. It appears weak and dehydrated. A female leopard gave birth to four to five cubs. Presently, the forest team has started combing the forest area to find a trail of the female leopard so that the cub could be reunited. These animals move from one place to another.”
