Chief Minister announced on Monday that the Porvorim road will remain open for traffic until the fifth day of Ganesh Chaturthi. Following the festive period, a detailed traffic management plan will be implemented before closing the stretch for ongoing flyover construction works.
The announcement brings relief to commuters and devotees during the festival, ensuring smoother travel. Authorities will coordinate with traffic police and contractors to enforce the closure in a phased and organized manner post-festival.

On Sunday, IT Minister and local MLA Rohan Khaunte had appealed to the Chief Minister to defer the proposed road diversion from O’Coquero Junction to Mall de Goa. Khaunte stated that the diversion would be postponed until the end of Ganesh festivities and that alternate routes would be prepared to manage diverted traffic.
He, however, acknowledged the poor condition of the roads due to ongoing flyover construction in the area.
Earlier, the government had announced the road diversion from O’Coquero Junction to Mall de Goa from August 24, 2025, to January 31, 2026, as part of the ongoing infrastructure work.
