Over 1,200 cops maintaining 24×7 vigil at Exposition

PANJIM: A total of 1,234 police staff have been deployed for providing round-the-clock security at the 18th decennial Exposition of sacred Relics of St Francis Xavier which is currently underway at Old Goa.

According to a police statement, 320 additional police personnel have been stationed for holidays, weekends and closing day.

A Separate CCTV monitoring station has been set up wherein 349 cameras have been installed at Se Cathedral Church, Basilica of Bom Jesus Church and its surrounding areas and at other strategic points such as parking and fair area to avoid any untoward incident. A total of 600 cameras are to be installed.

A total six AI-based cameras with face detection have been installed to track the movement of the people and a database of chain snatchers and pickpockets has been maintained.

A special team of 20 cops from North and South Goa, well-versed with the known chain snatchers and pickpockets has been deployed in civil dress. Besides, eight staff of Old Goa Police Station are maintaining vigil in and around the Church complex. As many as 300 staff of the security unit have been stationed at the gates of the Church complex and ring round around the relics of St Francis Xavier.

A total 400 traffic police are performing round-the-clock duty to ensure the smooth flow of traffic. Also 30 staff from the Special Branch and other units are collecting intelligence inputs and conveying the same to the local police station for further action.

According to the statement, from November 21 till date, 6,92,336 devotees have visited the church complex.
