MARGAO: In a bid to promote and preserve Zomnivele Khell, the Tiatr Academy of Goa (TAG) has announced plans to take the traditional Goan art form to all 40 constituencies, with an emphasis on extending the reach to remote areas.

The initiative was discussed at a meeting in Margao, where khell tiatrs directors addressed challenges and explored strategies for promotion. The meeting chaired by TAG president Anthony Barbosa was attended by Vice-President Marcos Gonsalves, Member Menino Fernandes, Avito Pires de Menezes, and Member Secretary Suresh Divkar.
The directors expressed their gratitude to TAG for supporting the upcoming Carnival festival.
Barbosa shared the academy’s ambitious plans for Zomnivele Khell, stressing the importance of promoting the art form beyond Salcete, and expanding its reach to rural Goa.
“If the directors agree, we aim to bring Zomnivele Khell to areas like Bardez, Sanguem, and Pernem to attract audiences from diverse regions,” he stated.
He emphasised that this art form is an integral part of Goa’s culture, and should be preserved.
TAG pledged to offer monetary support to directors, enabling them to bring Zomnivele Khell to wider audiences. The meetingcovered practical challenges such as costs of production, competition and efforts to preserve the art form.
