PANJIM: Goa Tourism Department has cancelled the shack operating licence, given to the owners of Sea Lounge Beach Shack, where a 37 year old Arambol local, Amar Mandrekar was brutally assaulted, allegedly leading to his death. The department has also ordered the shack to be demolished. A fine of Rs 25 lakh too has been imposed on the owner.
The shack owner has been given seven days to demolish the shack and he has been banned for taking part in future shack auctions.
On 26th January 2025, Amar Bandekar, decided to shift the chairs which were blocking tourists on the beach, while on a evening walk around 6.30pm
An argument with the owner by one Manuel Espritaosanto Fernandes at Arambol led to a brutal assault on Amar by the shack workers
There are allegations that Amar was hit by a blunt object and was declared brought dead to Tuem hospital.
Mandrem police have arrested three staff members of the shack and registered a case of murder.
Manuel Fernandes has forfeited the security deposit paid by him to the government treasury, due to violation of the Goa State Shack Policy. He will be ineligible to bid for future shack auctions.
