RAIA: Calangute Veterans thrashed Cavelossim 5-1 in the final to emerge champions in the 23rd All-Goa veterans football tournament played at Per Seraulim ground, recently.
The match, staged under the banner of the Flame of Unity Sports Club, exploded into life as Calangute struck twice inside the opening five minutes. At the heart of it all was Bibiano Fernandes, the mastermind coach of India’s U-17, who rolled back the years with a superb brace and two assists.
By halftime, the score read 5-0, with Dumain, Robert and Allwyn adding their names to scorer’s list.
Shell-shocked Cavelossim tried regrouping in the second half, but their fightback never truly materialised. Raju Cardozo carried the battle on his shoulders and Mario finally grabbed a consolation, but it was too little, too late.
Chief guest youth leader and social worker Warren Alemao distributed the prizes along with former Zilla Parishad chairperson Nelly Rodrigues, Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz and others dignitaries.
