State revises Police Service Rules

The Goa government has amended the Goa Police Service Rules, introducing revised promotion norms and service conditions for officers.

Under the new rules, 60% of police inspectors (PIs) with a minimum of five years of regular service will now be eligible for promotion to the junior scale of the Goa Police Service.

The notification also states that a combined eligibility list of all PI-rank officers — including those from the armourer, wireless, radio mechanic, motor transport, and Indian Reserve Battalion units — will be prepared every January for promotion consideration.

Authorities have emphasised that the amendments aim to streamline the promotion process, enhance career progression, and ensure fair and transparent evaluation of officers across all units.
