Auxilium Convent, Caranzalem, on Saturday held a press conference to commemorate the canonization of St. Maria Troncati, who was declared a saint by Pope Leo XIV in Rome on October 19, 2025.
Addressing the gathering, Sr. Meenakshi D’Silva, Provincial of the Mumbai Province, described St. Maria Troncati as “a remarkable woman, missionary, mother, and artisan of peace.” She highlighted the saint’s life of simplicity and service as a nurse, noting that her work went beyond physical healing — she also brought spiritual peace and unity among communities, often bridging divides between the colonial and local people.

Sharing details about the congregation’s global and national presence, Sr. Meenakshi said the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco are active in 97 nations across five continents, with 10,500 members worldwide. In India, the congregation operates through seven provinces, including 34 communities under the Mumbai Province.
She added that each community will celebrate the feast of St. Maria Troncati in their own way. A province-wide thanksgiving celebration will be held on Sunday, October 26, at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, Panaji, with a Eucharistic service at 11.30 a.m. The event will bring together members of the Salesian family, priests, past pupils, cooperators, ADMA members, and teachers to express gratitude for the new saint.
Sr. Meenakshi also shared that the sisters are actively spreading awareness about St. Maria’s inspiring life through creative initiatives such as games, competitions, quizzes, videos, souvenirs, and media outreach. “We are grateful to God for this new saint, who continues to inspire the Salesian family to live lives of holiness and service,” she said.
