The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia announced a massive cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the Indian women’s cricket team after their historic ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 triumph. India finally ended years of heartbreak, overcoming the disappointments of the 2005 and 2017 finals to clinch their maiden world title by defeating South Africa.
Speaking to the media, Saikia praised the leadership and vision that transformed women’s cricket in the country. “Since Jay Shah took charge of the BCCI as secretary from 2019 to 2024, he has implemented several key changes, including addressing pay parity in women’s cricket,” Saikia said. “Last month, ICC Chairman Jay Shah increased the women’s prize money by 300 per cent, raising it from $2.88 million to $14 million. These steps have significantly promoted women’s cricket globally.”
In recognition of the team’s historic achievement, the BCCI’s Rs 51 crore reward will be distributed among players, coaches, and the entire support staff.
Prize Money Did India Get For Winning ICC Women’s World Cup 2025
As for the ICC’s contribution, India received a handsome USD 4.48 million (around Rs 40 crore) for winning the 2025 World Cup — a major leap from the USD 1.32 million (Rs 12 crore) that Australia earned for their 2022 title. Runners-up South Africa were awarded USD 2.24 million (Rs 20 crore), while both losing semifinalists took home USD 1.12 million (Rs 10 crore) each.
The total prize pool for the 2025 edition stood at USD 13.88 million (Rs 123 crore) — nearly four times the USD 3.5 million (Rs 31 crore) offered during the previous World Cup in New Zealand. Interestingly, this amount even surpasses the USD 10 million (Rs 89 crore) prize pool of the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Saikia concluded by comparing the moment to India’s iconic 1983 men’s triumph. “Just as Kapil Dev’s team changed Indian cricket forever, Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls have inspired a generation. Their victory has ignited a new era for women’s cricket in India,” he said.
