Traditional fishermen from Caranzalem met the Fisheries Director, Sharmila Monteiro, urging the department to take them into confidence before finalising any upcoming water sport activities in their area. The delegation submitted a memorandum outlining their concerns about the potential impact of such events on their livelihood and fishing zones. After receiving their representation, Director Monteiro assured the fishermen that their grievances would be carefully examined. Emphasising the importance of traditional fishing communities, she described the Ramponkars as the “eyes and ears” of the government and acknowledged their valuable contribution to coastal monitoring and resource protection.
Monteiro further assured that their advice would be sought not only in the context of water sports but also on other matters related to fisheries and coastal development. The meeting concluded on a positive note, reflecting growing efforts to strengthen coordination between fishermen and authorities.
