Margao to Get Thermocol Solvent Recovery Unit; MMC Calls It a Breakthrough in Waste Management

The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is set to take a significant step toward improving waste management with plans to establish a thermocol solvent recovery unit in the city.

Announcing the initiative after an inspection visit to Pune, MMC chairperson Damodar Shirodkar described the move as a “revolutionary step” in addressing Goa’s persistent waste disposal challenges.

Shirodkar said the project will enable the safe and efficient disposal of thermocol and mixed waste generated in Margao. He also confirmed that around 80% of the 10 TPD (tonnes per day) waste processing plant at Sonsodo is already complete and will be fully operational within the next 20 to 25 days.

“If we succeed in this project, we can extend thermocol disposal services to other municipalities as well,” Shirodkar said, adding that the initiative could also generate additional revenue for the MMC while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable waste management system in the region.
