Nitish Kumar is on course to become Bihar’s Chief Minister for a record tenth time after the NDA on Wednesday elected him as the leader of its legislature party.
The NDA alliance — BJP, JD(U), LJP(RV), HAM and RLM — stormed to power with 202 seats in the 243-member Assembly. The JD(U) won 85 seats, while the BJP topped the charts with 89.

Earlier, the JD(U) separately named Kumar as its legislative party leader.
The Mahagathbandhan posted a weak performance: RJD secured 25 seats, Congress six, CPI(ML)(L) two, IIP one and CPI(M) one. AIMIM picked up five seats and BSP bagged one.
Bihar’s two-phase election on November 6 and 11 recorded a historic turnout of 67.13%, with women voters casting ballots at a significantly higher rate than men.
