Over 70 lakh names dropped in Gujarat from draft electoral rolls after SIR

More than seven million voter names have been removed from Gujarat’s draft electoral roll following the publication of the list under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by the Election Commission. The total number of registered voters has come down from 50.8 million to 43.47 million, indicating the deletion of 7,373,327 names.

The revision exercise involved 50,963 Booth Level Officers (BLOs), who conducted door-to-door visits to distribute enumeration forms and carry out voter mapping and verification. The deletions include deceased voters, non-existent voters, those who have permanently shifted, and individuals registered at multiple locations.
