The Supreme Court has dismissed a Special Leave Petition (SLP), thereby upholding the Bombay High Court at Goa’s verdict dated October 1, 2025, which had rejected a writ petition filed by 11 candidates challenging the Goa government’s decision to scrap the 2023 recruitment process for Junior Scale Officers (Deputy Superintendent of Police).
The High Court had ruled that the state government was well within its right to cancel the recruitment process in order to implement revised rules aimed at enhancing the upper age limit for eligible candidates. The court observed that the decision was taken in the larger public interest and to ensure a fairer recruitment framework.

By refusing to interfere with the High Court’s order, the apex court has effectively validated the Goa government’s move, bringing an end to the legal challenge raised by the aggrieved candidates.
