Former Congress Minority Chairman Nazir Khan has alleged that the newly constructed fish market built and operated by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is facing serious issues related to hygiene and management.
Khan claimed that fish vendors, along with vegetable sellers, are operating on the staircases of the market complex, creating unhygienic conditions and inconvenience to visitors. He further alleged that the first floor of the market, which was designated for vegetable vendors, remains vacant and unused.
According to Khan, despite being a newly built facility, the fish market is in a shabby condition, raising concerns over cleanliness and proper utilisation of public infrastructure. He urged the civic authorities to address the issues and ensure better regulation and maintenance of the market premises.
The allegations have sparked questions over the functioning and upkeep of the MMC-run facility, with calls for corrective action to improve hygiene standards and vendor management.
