Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has issued a strong warning to the BJP-led government, demanding the cancellation of the ‘Consent to Operate’ granted to the newly established fish meal unit at Cuncolim Industrial Estate within 10 days.
Addressing the media, Alemao alleged that the unit lacks adequate sewage treatment and odour control systems, which he said poses a serious threat to public health and the surrounding environment. He maintained that allowing the unit to function under such conditions is unacceptable.
Alemao cautioned that if the government fails to act within the stipulated time, a large-scale protest will be launched. He further warned that if the situation escalates into a law and order problem, the responsibility would lie squarely with the state government.
The opposition leader reiterated his demand for immediate corrective action, stating that the safety and well-being of residents must be prioritised over industrial interests.
