Clarifying the procedure for sealing clubs and other establishments over safety violations, Nitin Raiker, Director of Fire and Emergency Services (FES), said the department does not have independent authority to seal premises.
Responding to media queries, Raiker explained that action against establishments is taken by a designated joint committee rather than the fire department alone.

“We don’t have the power to seal establishments. There is a different committee for it, which includes the Collector, a representative of the Collector, a fire department representative, and various others,” he stated.
According to Raiker, the committee conducts inspections of clubs and commercial establishments to verify compliance with prescribed safety norms. If violations are found and safety standards are not adhered to, the committee recommends and carries out sealing action.
He emphasised that the process is collective and follows due procedure, ensuring that enforcement decisions are made through a coordinated mechanism involving multiple authorities.
