Bombay High Court Orders Removal of Illegal Landfilling in Murda Mangrove Area, Sets March 31 Deadline

The Bombay High Court at Goa has directed the Communidade of Murda to remove illegal landfilling carried out in Survey Nos. 93/1 to 93/10 at Murda in Tiswadi and restore the affected land to its original condition by March 31, 2026.

The Court observed that the action must be undertaken strictly in accordance with the findings of a Task Force report, which had flagged unauthorized filling activities in mangrove areas at the site.

The restoration process will be supervised by the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) along with the Administrator of Communidades to ensure compliance with environmental norms and court directives.

In addition, the Court has ordered the demolition of illegal structures identified on the land by February 28, 2026.

The matter is scheduled for further hearing on March 24, 2026, when the Court is expected to review the status of compliance with its directives.
